Nutritional Wellness

Nutritional Counseling & Weight Loss

What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance within their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplementation and healthy food choices.

“Life expectancy in the US, one of the richest countries in the world, is ranked 48th in the world. Among developed countries Americans are the most obese and overweight people.” This statistic demonstrates that people need guidance on how to eat. Americans get many mixed messages about diet from so called “experts”.

Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals assists our patients on their return to optimal health.

We believe in lifestyle changes based on scientific research, not only to lose weight but to avoid chronic debilitating diseases. Diet is the single most controllable factor in one’s life. You will not be put on a crash diet that is impossible to maintain. You will be guided on a sustainable way of eating. In addition, support for your body will include basic nutrients, detoxification protocols, and balancing neurotransmitters to make dietary compliance easier.

We educate you about diet and advise you on a specialized dietary approach based on your individual needs.

SUPPLEMENTS & WHOLE FOOD NUTRITION

In today’s society, Americans are over-consuming processed foods and skipping their fruits and vegetables. With the soil continuing to be depleted, Americans are basically malnurished. Whole food nutrition is so important because it utilizes the entire complex of nutrients in the correct balance, and is easily assimilated by the body.

Whole food nutrition supplementation is derived from food versus synthetic isolates. For example, if a consumer goes into a health food store shopping for Vitamin C and reads the back of the label it will show Ascorbic acid as the main ingredient. Consuming just Ascorbic acid would be akin to eating the peel of an orange only, not the whole orange. Ascorbic acid is only a small portion of the C-Complex and definitely not the most important.

The human body is not designed to consume isolated nutrients and then use them effectively. Vitamins and minerals are found in combination in nature, not alone.

The quality of supplements sold in this office follow FDA standards and are pharmaceutical grade (made from whole food sources).

Do you know which supplements and vitamins are right for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? Dr. Barter and her team provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs, because everyone’s needs are different.

Herbs

Medicinal herbs are plants that have been used in the treatment of just about every ailment known to humankind for thousands of years. It is believed by many traditional cultures, and by many sages as well, that for every “dis-ease” suffered by people, there is a cure in the natural world.

Studies show that about 25 to 50 percent of the prescription drugs dispensed in the United States contain at least one active ingredient derived from herbal material, either herbal extracts or synthesized to imitate a natural herbal compound. Herbs are extremely powerful medicine in their natural form. Herbal therapy is safe, effective, and a proven means to treat a variety of complaints.

Alternative Family Medicine & Chiropractic has one of the most complete herbal pharmacies in the area and is extremely diligent about the companies from which herbs are sourced – with a focus on laboratory-confirmed presence of active ingredients, purity and strength, from sustainable and organic sources. All herbs sold in this office are pharmaceutical grade.

Herbs can be magical medicines, but only if they are properly manufactured and contaminant free!

Detox

Americans are exposed to 80,000 – 85,000 chemicals every 7 days. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports that hundreds of these chemicals are present in our bodies, and the research also suggests that many of these chemicals can disrupt our immune, endocrine, nervous, and reproductive systems.

Livers become overworked, free radicals become common, weight gain, premature aging, and disease occurs because an increased burden is put on the liver, kidneys and digestive system to remove all the excessive free radicals. It is so important to be on a detoxification program that is tailored to the individual.

Certain people need a little more help cleaning out the liver, others need to remove toxic fat, and some people need to clean out their bowel. Most people need to do some sort of detoxification to combat the toxicity of the world lived in today.
